Welcome to the New Bell Inn, a traditional pub in Historic Harwich.

We are an award winning establishment having won Tendring CAMRA’s Pub of the Year title twice in recent years.

Under new management since 2014, the New Bell continues to stock a varied range of quality ales, predominately from small breweries across East Anglia.

During the pandemic our opening hours, food and services are all subject to change. Please check the news pages as well as our social media accounts for the latest information.

We are currently providing a limited menu, please ask the staff.

Please note that, at present, we close in the afternoon from 3.30pm Mondays-Thursdays, re-opening at 7pm.  We’re open all day Friday to Sunday.

Whilst we are restricted to serving outside only, opening hours are very much dependant on the weather. Please call on 01255 503545 if the weather looks iffy, we’ll be able to confirm the day’s planned hours.

All opening hours are potentially subject to short notice change, especially during Bank Holidays, if in doubt please ask at the bar or phone. We are a dog friendly public house.

We normally have live music, quizzes and special events throughout the year. Our Events page will have all the details!

“It has proven almost impossible to unravel the history of the pubs known over the years as the Bell, Blue Bell and the New Bell. We know that there was originally both a Bell and a Blue Bell in Outpart Eastward at roughly the same time and, probably to avoid confusion, the pub we know today was given the “New” prefix by the Collector of Dues for the Corporation.

“The site and possibly part of the building was reputed to have been a blacksmith’s shop back in the 17th Century and the buildings were modified to become a public house around the middle of the 18th Century.”
